From UPI to Uncle Sam: A Fintech Guy's Journey Across Borders

Hi, I’m Vignesh. For over 15 years, I’ve been building and scaling digital banking and fintech products in India—think zero-to-one lending platforms, UPI integrations before it was cool, and turning banks into tech-first, API-driven machines.

I’ve worn many hats: product head, business owner, growth driver, and P&L custodian. At IDFC FIRST Bank, I led the creation of a digital-only lending business, scaling it from scratch to $2B in two years. I’ve worked closely with fintechs, regulators, engineering teams, and often found myself translating between them. My work has sat at the intersection of product, policy, and platform.

In 2025, I moved to the Bay Area. New zip code, same curiosity.

Now, I’m immersing myself in the U.S. financial ecosystem—learning, comparing, and documenting the experience as someone who deeply understands how things work back in India. I consult with early-stage startups in blockchain and personal finance and everything that is fintech and growth.

This space is my public notebook. A space for reflections, blog posts, and ideas as I learn the U.S. way of doing banking, product, and money.

If you’re building in fintech, thinking about global money movement, or just want to swap stories about rent checks and Aadhaar—let’s talk.
