I'm Marcus, a Staff Engineer based in San Francisco. I currently work at Dataform (acquired by Google) on data pipeline infrastructure.
My background is in distributed systems, data infrastructure, and platform engineering. Before Dataform, I spent 4 years at Stripe working on the payments processing pipeline, and 2 years at Segment on the events infrastructure team.
I like working on problems that involve scale, reliability, and making complex systems understandable. I'm less interested in shiny new tech and more interested in boring technology that works.
Outside of work, I maintain a couple of open source projects (see below), write about engineering and team scaling on my blog, and occasionally speak at conferences about operational excellence and incident management.
I grew up in Atlanta, studied CS at Georgia Tech, and have been in SF for 10 years. When I'm not at a computer, I'm probably running in Golden Gate Park or obsessing over coffee extraction.
Always happy to chat with folks early in their careers. DMs are open.
