making and collecting small things

planet arth

I will admit that Planet Arth is perhaps not so small. it's a whole planet, after all. more specifically it is a world I created and a game I began to design. and by "design" I mean I coded about 2 lines in GML and then promptly put the entire project down. the lore for the world, however, was written in pink colored pencil in my journal. I will include it below.

this is Jen. she coincidentally has an identical name and personality to my dnd character. their settings are a little different, though, so I consider them to be unique individuals.

Jen is one of the playable characters in planet Arth. she is from a small fishing village in one of the frequently flooded regions of the planet. Jen finds a magical amulet in a well -- one of the very few magical items remaining after the wizards disappeared from Arth (previously Earth) all those years ago. Jen joins a team of pseudo freedom fighters to help defeat a nameless power. they are nameless because I haven't named them yet.

Lore: Once the wizards resurfaced in a final attempt to halt climate change, they decided that the only reasonable course of action would be to create a new climate entirely.

They siphoned all of the water from the atmosphere and bodies of water, reformed the land, and packaged the water into the core of the Arth (oh yeah, and they dropped the "E"). They did not do a very good job, causing the Water Core to be pretty asymmetrical. Consequently 1/4 of the planet is too wet to inhabit and another 1/4 too dry. About as often as it would rain, it now uprains -- water wells up to the surface from the Core, causing puddles at best and gigantic towering floods at worst.

There are no longer clouds. Instead, a Dead Layer encompasses the Arth from the altitude of 1000-1500 feet. Due to the obvious lack of air travel, high-speed rails were erected far above the ground, spanning much of the planet.

After admiring their work the wizards sank deep into the Core, where it is rumored that they built a glorious underwater city housing all of the treasure of the Old world.

Game Conflict: The world is losing water. "Evil Person" is slowly ripping holes in the Dead Layer for purposes of exploration. However, this is causing the planet's finite water source to evaporate, with no means of condensation.

You must balance your fishing duties with your secret second occupation: Gap-Closer.
